Game for Ludum Dare Game Jam

Welcome to ORCHAOSTRA, a music concert performed in the day of almost end of the world. A place between ambition's east and fear's west that burns in the flames of destruction. The hatred, the greed, the opression generated a chaotic system with emotionally unstable subjects. But be cool. Keep calm and don't panic. The salvation may be in your hands. A mission that won't be easy, since the musicians are let's say, pretty unstable with the situation.

This was my first experience working on a rhythm game, and my first time collaborating with such a large and diverse team.

  • Game Design (Mechanics and Dynamics)

  • Balancing

  • Documentation

I was responsible for designing core systems, mapping gameplay dynamics, and organizing the project flow using Miro. All note timings were manually structured using spreadsheets to ensure each level’s music was synced correctly with player inputs.

Balancing the timing windows and ensuring fair, consistent input response was a major challenge, and a key learning point for me as a designer.

Originally, the team planned for the note lanes and inputs to be arranged vertically (top-to-bottom), matching the visual flow of notes falling on the screen. However, I proposed changing the system to a horizontal layout for two main reasons:

  • Ergonomic comfort: It’s more natural for players to press keys horizontally on a keyboard.

  • Ease of reading: Especially for desktop rhythm players, side-to-side input is faster and reduces cognitive load.

Orchaostra pushed me to think about gameplay rhythm on a whole new level and taught me how even small interface decisions can drastically affect player experience. From music syncing to input ergonomics, it was a game where every detail really mattered.
