Game for Game Design Class

No Pink No Blue is a pixel art/2D runner visual novel that tells the story of Pinky, a character from a caricatured doll-dressing game who doesn't identify with her own game. During her journey to discover her true place within the Game World, Pinky meets Blu, a character from a spaceship game who feels the same way she does. What will this encounter reveal about themselves?

The project was developed as part of the Game Design course completion at Benditas. I collaborated with a team of classmates over several weeks, contributing in multiple areas:

  • Game Design

  • Programming

  • Quality Assurance (QA)

  • Project Organization and Flowchart Mapping

One of my key contributions was organizing the project structure using flowcharts and clear task distribution to keep the team aligned throughout development.

One of the most important mechanics in No Pink No Blue was the dash, which allows the player to overcome obstacles and interact with the environment more dynamically. During development, we encountered issues with the dash execution, particularly in syncing animation with collision and player control. Despite these problems, I insisted on maintaining a feature that I believed was essential for game feel:

This decision was driven by a focus on making the gameplay feel more responsive and dynamic, adding a layer of skill expression even in a runner-type structure. Through careful testing and iteration, we managed to stabilize this mechanic, improving overall flow and player control.

I also played a key role in Quality Assurance, conducting structured tests and feedback loops. I focused on:

  • Identifying bugs related to dash, jump, and collision systems

  • Checking narrative pacing between runner segments and visual novel sections

  • Refining level flow and challenge scaling

No Pink No Blue was both a creative and technical challenge, combining two very different genres: runner and visual novel, into a single cohesive experience. It taught me the value of fighting for gameplay quality even when things get complex technically, and how solid project organization can keep a team moving forward.
