Game for Ludum Dare Game Jam
How Deep Is Your Love is a 2D/3D runner that will literally take you on a captivating dive. Your pirate heart will be swept away as you pursue the love of a mermaid while defending yourself against unfriendly sea creatures. Love truly is a game, and the deeper you dive in pursuit of this feeling, the higher the chances of dying from love.
During this jam, I took the lead in organizing and structuring the project. I was responsible for:
-
Game Design
-
Level Design
-
Documentation
-
Programming
I started by organizing all ideas using Miro, mapping out core mechanics, level flow, and task prioritization. Since it was a jam with limited time, the documentation had to be clear, visual, and easily accessible to the whole team.

One of the key challenges was working with 3D assets in a 2D runner format. As the designer, I had to ensure that:
-
Collision areas felt consistent and readable despite the 3D visuals.
-
Level elements like enemies, obstacles, and collectibles had clear visual priority.
-
Movement and camera behavior aligned with the hybrid 2.5D look.
Balancing visual depth with gameplay clarity required a lot of iteration, but overcoming this helped the game stand out visually while remaining fun to play.
Towards the end of the jam, our team ran into a major issue: we lost our main programmer. To keep the project going, I stepped in and handled a part of the core programming myself.
This experience pushed me to start thinking about my design decisions from a more technical perspective, writing cleaner logic, defining clearer parameters for speed, collision, and UI feedback. It was a key moment where I connected game design and programming more deeply in my workflow.
How Deep Is Your Love was both a creative and technical learning experience for me. It taught me not just how to guide a team and document ideas clearly, but also how to step up when unexpected challenges happen, blending design and programming to bring the game to life, even under pressure.
