Guild of Hunters is a turn-based RPG where players manage a party of hunters, recruit members, upgrade equipment, and venture into expeditions to battle the mysterious monsters born from a spreading miasma. With systems of combat, resource management, and impactful choices, the game blends tactical battle with a rich medieval fantasy setting.
I joined the project mid-production, as part of the studio’s first game, with several core systems and art assets already in place. My main challenge was to help the team improve player onboarding and make sure that the game’s complexity was communicated in a clear and engaging way.
One of my key contributions was creating a comprehensive tutorial document to guide the implementation of onboarding. Playtests revealed that many players felt lost at the beginning and were unsure how to take their first actions. To address this, I designed:

A mandatory first tutorial sequence, where an experienced hunter introduces the basic controls and the combat loop step by step.

Optional tutorial buttons in menus like Inventory, Shop, Craft, Upgrade, Recruit, and Team Editing, accessible at any time.

An interactive cursor system, allowing players to hover over UI elements to reveal contextual explanations.

Progressive NPC dialogues that unlocked as the player advanced, reinforcing mechanics and expanding the story.

This structure ensured that players could both learn the basics upfront and access deeper explanations later, preventing cognitive overload and supporting different learning styles.
Working on Guild of Hunters was a milestone: my first chance to contribute to a commercial project and to help a team prepare a game for launch. It taught me how clear onboarding and documentation not only improve the player experience but also strengthen team alignment during production.
